What is Dog Hydrotherapy?

What is Dog Hydrotherapy?

Utilising the healing properties of water is something that is believed to have started as early as the 5th century when people were prescribed to bathe in spring waters as a remedy for their illnesses, but hydrotherapy is believed to have been officially used as a treatment for ailments since the 1800’s. The term hydrotherapy literally means ‘water therapy’ and describes the way that it can be used with movement to create a safe environment for gentle exercise and physiotherapy to help promote healing, build muscle and ease pain.It is not only humans who can benefit from hydrotherapy but dogs and animals too which is why we created our range of DoggySwim pools, specially designed for both professionals and pet owners.

How Does Canine Hydrotherapy Work?

Just like us, dogs' bodies can become weak or develop limited mobility due to injury, old age or illnesses that affect balance, movement, weight and even their happiness, general wellbeing and life expectancy. Depending on the dog and their individual needs the type of treatment or how the pool is utilised can vary from building water confidence and workouts to improving fitness and providing relief from pain. With the warm water acting as a buoyant support, dogs can be encouraged to stretch their limbs, walk, exercise and strengthen specific muscles to help improve their health and get them fitter and happier.
